Georgetown,
DE—
Hundreds of people have joined together on two separate
occasions in the last month to celebrate the opening of two new
facilities that will benefit both Georgetown, Del. and the
surrounding community.
The
most recent celebration was the June 2 dedication of the new
headquarters for Easter Seals Delaware and Maryland’s Eastern
Shore; a month earlier, on May 1, the University of Delaware
held a dedication for the Elbert N. and Ann V. Carvel Research
and Education Center. Both of these facilities were built by
regional construction manager Nason Construction, Inc., locally
based in Salisbury, Md.
The
new 25,000 square foot Easter Seals facility, located on U.S.
113 N at the south end of town, combines all of the activities
and operations of three Easter Seals locations into one central
facility. These operations include physical therapy, clinical
education, programs for adults with developmental disabilities,
administrative offices, and the Sussex Training Employment
Project, which creates jobs for the disabled. Last year the
agency served more than 3,000 people in Sussex County.
The
new headquarters is the first phase of a multi-year initiative
by Easter Seals to expand the many services currently provided
to adults and children with disabilities. In the coming year,
Nason Construction will begin work on the next phase of
expansion – a 25,000 square foot addition and 20,000 square foot
renovation to the Easter Seals facility in New Castle County.
Completed a couple months before the Easter Seals facility, the
Carvel Research and Education Center is a two-story off-campus
facility for the University of Delaware, totaling 26,000 square
feet.
The
Research and Education Center, located on U.S. 9 a couple miles
west of Georgetown, is part of the university’s College of
Agricultural and Natural Resources and has been playing a
positive role in state’s agricultural research, teaching and
community outreach for the past 60 years.
The
spacious, new $7.4 million Carvel Research and Education Center
provides a venue to teach university students, both on-campus
and at remote locations with the center’s video (I-TV) lecture
rooms. The Center also connects with the public through food
safety and nutrition workshops, 4-H clubs and activities, home
horticulture classes, farm safety programs, and more.
This
facility is just one of more than a dozen projects that Nason
Construction has completed for the University of Delaware. Some
of these include the new $12.8 million Academy Street Building
and Parking Garage, the $5 million renovation for the Early
Childhood Learning Center, and the $3.2 million addition to John
A. Munroe Hall.
Established in 1922, Nason Construction provides construction
management, design-build and general contracting services for
commercial, institutional, and government clients in Delaware,
Maryland, Pennsylvania and New Jersey. Headquartered in
Wilmington, Del., Nason Construction maintains regional offices
in Philadelphia, Penn., and Salisbury, Md. Clients include
Nanticoke Memorial Hospital, Christiana Care Health System,
Schmidt Baking Company, Cadbury Senior Services, and the State
of Delaware, for which Nason is currently completing the new
105,000 square foot Delaware Veterans Home.
