Berlin, MD—
Atlantic General Hospital hosted an open house and ribbon
cutting ceremony for their new Women’s Diagnostic Center on
Thursday, Nov. 17 from 4 to 6 p.m.
The 2,000 square foot facility, which officially opened for
patient service on October 17, allows the hospital to offer
all-inclusive diagnostic services for women at a single
location. The services offered include mammograms, breast
ultrasound, computer-aided breast cancer detection (CAD),
stereotactic breast biopsy (non-invasive), and osteoporosis and
bone densitometry scan.
The new Chief Executive Officer of Atlantic General Michael
Franklin commented on the success of the facility during the
ribbon cutting, “There is already a six week waiting list for
mammogram screenings, which demonstrates the need for these
services in the community.”
The Women’s
Diagnostic
Center is located just inside the main entrance of
Atlantic General Hospital
with its own private entrance. Before the center’s opening, the
hospital had only one room for mammography x-rays. Not only does
the center provide much-needed additional space but it also
offers the most advanced radiology procedures and equipment
available.
Nason
Construction, Inc., locally based in Salisbury, MD, renovated
the space, which formerly held physical therapy rooms and the
human resources department. Nason also completed the 38,000
square foot emergency department and radiology expansion and
renovation at Atlantic General in 2003.
Atlantic
General is continuing to expand as they are planning to begin
their second major project on site as part of their master
campus plan.
Nason Construction
will also be the general contractor for this new two-story,
41,000 square foot medical office building. The facility will
house both independent community physicians and services for the
hospital. The completion date is scheduled for the winter of
2007.
Established in
