Lewes, DE —
Eight years after the concept was first approved, ground was
broken for Cadbury at Lewes, a new continuing care retirement
community (CCRC) in Lewes, DE.
“This is a major step in that concept becoming reality,”
Victor Amey, President and CEO of Cadbury Senior Services, said
at the site dedication and groundbreaking ceremony on Tuesday,
Nov. 1. “This reality is not only a premier continuing care
retirement community, but also a vital part of the local
community.” Cadbury at Lewes will be the first CCRC in Lewes,
and the second managed by Cadbury Senior Services, whose
flagship community is in
Cherry Hill, NJ.
Cadbury at Lewes will offer 82 assisted living apartments, 40
skilled nursing units, 44 independent living duplex cottages,
4 free-standing cottages, and a
community center. The site is being
developed by New Life Management & Development in
Mt. Laurel, NJ on 35 prime acres just off
of
Gills Neck Road.
The CCRC was designed by Tsomides Associates Architects
Planners, Newton Upper Falls, MA, to complement the existing
architecture and streetscape that are so appealing throughout
the bayside community.
Nason
Construction, headquartered in Wilmington, DE, is providing
construction management services for the 275,000 square foot
project. Nason also recently
began construction on a $8 million, 62,000 square foot
independent living facility in Ocean Pines, MD as well as the
new $25 million, 105,000 square foot Delaware Veterans Home in
Milford, DE, which will be a skilled care nursing facility for
local veterans.
The Hon. Harriet Smith Windsor, Delaware Secretary of State
and Lewes resident, related the Veterans Home groundbreaking in
August to the Cadbury groundbreaking saying, “When that first
shovel of dirt was turned, it was more than a ceremony, it was
love. I believe it will be the same for you today.”
When completed, Cadbury at Lewes will feature a state-of-the-art
community center with a myriad of activities available.
Residents will have priority access to a full continuum of
on-site healthcare, assisted living apartments with a secure
memory support area, as well as skilled nursing services.
In addition, Cadbury at Lewes will offer an array of amenities
including the following: walking and biking paths, gardening
areas, indoor lap pool, all-purpose auditorium, meditation room,
library, casual and formal dining, convenience shop, art studio,
fitness studio, salon and barber services, woodworking shop, and
more.
