8(a) Mentor

Nason Construction has been proudly participating in the Mentor-Protégé Program through the US Small Business Administration since October 2007. The SBA’s Mentor-Protégé program is designed to enhance the capabilities of 8(a) firms, allowing them to become more successful and grow, with guidance from a Mentor, who is financially health, in good standing with the government, and can provide valuable support and training to the Protégé.

Bradley Enterprises, Ltd., was the first firm Nason mentored. Bradley is a minority, veteran owned business that had 8(a) status for two years of our agreement. They have since graduated from the program. The Non-Medical Chemical Biological Facility for the US Army Corps of Engineers, Baltimore District, was recently completed under a Bradley/Nason Joint Venture. Our experience as a mentor was very positive for both firms.

Construction Project Management Services, Inc., (CPMS) is a SBA certified 8(a) firm, a Small Disadvantaged Business (SDB), and a Service Disabled Veteran Owned Business (SDVOB. Both CPMS and Nason agreed that establishing a Mentor/Protégé relationship could enhance the capabilities of the Protégé and improve its ability to successfully compete for contracts consistent with the goals of SBA’s Mentor/Protégé Program. An assessment of the Protégé’s needs was conducted for our MPA, and focus areas were identified, including Management and Technical Assistance, General Assistance, Financial Assistance, and Business Development Assistance.

The CPMS/Nason JV, LLC team came together under a Mentor Protégé business agreement in January 2011. Together, our firms provide exceptional construction management, general contracting, design-build, and management consulting to clients in the Mid-Atlantic. Our staff of more than 75 professionals, collectively, presents our clients with the advantages of a small company structure, as well as the resources available to a larger firm. Since CPMS is a SBA certified 8(a) firm, a Small Disadvantaged Business (SDB), and a Service Disabled Veteran Owned Business (SDVOB), the CPMS/Nason JV, LLC is qualified to pursue set-aside work in these categories.

The CPMS/Nason JV was recently awarded a project for the US Army Corps of Engineers, Baltimore District. The project totals over $1.2 million, and involves the Purchase, Installation, and Programming of Audio/Visual Equipment for the Joint Program Executive Office (JPEO) Facility at Aberdeen Proving Ground, MD.
