Nason Completes Physical Education Complex at Cecil College

New complex provides students with an all-in-one athletic and wellness facility

North East, MD, November 17, 2010: Cecil College’s Physical Education Complex recently opened to students, faculty and staff. The new 50,000 square foot complex completely transformed an original structure with an investment of over $18.5 million dollars.

The renovations and addition included construction of meeting rooms, athletic locker rooms, classrooms, conference areas and a fitness center. The gymnasium received upgrades such as new hard wood flooring and chair back seating. During construction an elevator was added to make the facility handicap accessible, and six tennis courts, a walking track, soccer fields, and parking lot were relocated to accommodate the campus master plan.

The architectural design, by Marshall Craft Associates, dramatically updated the building exterior with a modern glass façade. The system used is a sustainable feature that promotes energy efficiency by offering natural lighting throughout the building with steel shelf angles that provide shading and highly insulated panels that reduce energy loss.

As the largest multi-purpose space on campus, the building affords Cecil College greater flexibility to host various types of events and activities while allowing the college to better promote fitness, wellness and health for students.
