Nason Groundbreaking for Sudlersville Middle School

New school unites sustainability, technology, and education

Sudlersville, MD, May 27, 2010: Nason Construction recently joined Queen Anne’s County Public Schools for a groundbreaking ceremony to commemorate the new $23 million Sudlersville Middle School. The school will address the expanding needs of the county, which has the second highest growth rate of any Upper Eastern Shore County in Maryland.

The 110,000 square foot facility will accommodate 800 students and unite sustainable practices, technology, and education with hi-tech learning tools in the classroom and environmentally responsible building control systems. It will include a state-of-the-art media center, special education, music, art, and science rooms, new administrative offices, two recreational gymnasiums, and athletic fields.

The school, designed by Crabtree & Rohrbaugh Associates, is registered for LEED Silver Certification upon completion. Sustainable features include solar panels and geothermal heating and cooling systems to make the school energy efficient while off-setting energy costs. In addition, the building will feature 80% daylighted spaces and has projected a 40% reduction in water use.

“Nason is honored to be a part of the changing face of Maryland education facilities,” said Nason Construction’s Chief Executive Officer, Thomas W. Nason, II. “By making strides in both technology and sustainable building practices, Sudlersville Middle School is going to proudly support the Queen Anne’s County community for many years to come.”
