Nason’s Year-End Education Projects Overview
Nason Construction completes several education projects in the Philadelphia
Philadelphia, PA, January 18, 2011: Nason Construction is pleased to announce the successful completion of education projects at Rosemont College, the George School and the Widener Partnership Charter School. Each institution made a significant investment to renovate and retrofit an existing facility on their occupied campus.
Rosemont College’s Gertrude Kistler Memorial Library is an active learning center that facilitates research and study for students. The renovation provided an information commons, media center, computer stations, study rooms, new offices, and a coffee bar. Construction consisted of high-end architectural finishes and millwork with a new circulation desk, state-of-the-art information technology and book security system.
George School’s McFeely Building, once home to the school’s library, was renovated to accommodate classrooms and offices for the history department at this historic Quaker boarding and day school. Guided by green building principles, these new state-of-the-art and eco-friendly classrooms and instructional spaces include natural daylight, energy-efficient lighting, interactive whiteboards, and ergonomic furniture. The $1.3 million retro-fit also provided a new multi-use space, offices, faculty work room, energy efficient HVAC system, handicap accessibility, and instructional technology integration.
Widener Partnership Charter School is a multicultural, student-centered environment for urban elementary (K-5) students in Chester, PA. Supported by Widener University, the school was first constructed by Nason in 2007. The 2010 renovation included a multi-purpose room, additional classrooms and administrative spaces for an expected enrollment of 300 students. The 10,000 SF project was fast-tracked over 8 weeks and included comprehensive MEP upgrades.
“Nason Construction is privileged to work with these exceptional institutions,” said Nason’s Chief Executive Officer, Thomas W. Nason, II. “Education projects are incredibly important resources for the community and these are some of the most satisfying projects we accomplish as a company.”
