Description
Nason Construction was selected as the Construction Manager for a new $7.6 million two-story, 23,000 square foot oncology center and a post-tension parking garage which was completed in phases to better accommodate hospital staff and patients. Working closely with the SmithGroup, preconstruction services included identifying value engineering alternatives, conducting constructability analysis, and developing cost budgets and project schedules. The steel-framed and brick veneer facility features a reflective glass curtain wall radius along the west side offering spectacular views of the Nanticoke River and high-end finishes throughout the physician offices. The facility accommodates cancer treatment areas and a linear accelerator which consists of one foot thick concrete walls and floor slab to ensure radiation containment.
Project challenges included constructing the facility only 20 feet from the banks of the river and directly in front of an existing professional building as well as extensive weather delays with record breaking rainfall throughout the construction of this project. Despite the challenges, the project was delivered $592,000 under budget.
